Description

The controller area network, CAN, standard was developed by Bosch, Germany for in-vehicle data communications over a bi-directional dual-wire bus. CAN is authorised by SAE and ISO organisations as a standard protocol and is widely adopted in Europe. The use of CAN entails considerable reduction in cables and weight. It efficiently handles the increasing amount of data flow among automotive electronic systems and permits more reliable diagnostics. CAN also fulfils the requirements for ecology cars, such as CO2-free electromobiles. The ML9620 is a CAN protocol controller peripheral LSI. Unlike other car LAN solutions, CAN spans over a data speed range from 10kbps to 1Mbps and incorporates advanced error detection and handling techniques. ML9620 provides various selectable host interfaces and connects to a CAN bus line serially via a bus transceiver. A system node, for instance power window or suspension control, connected to CAN typically consists of a system MCU, an ML9620 and a CAN transceiver LSI.
