In the case of a Speech LSI without the edit ROM function, each individual data must be stored as a phrase in ROM, for playback of "Today's weather is sunny' and "Today's weather is rainy", each phrase must be addressed individually. Oki's Speech Synthesis LSI's has edit ROM functions that eliminate the need for an external microcontroller to provide the continuous timing necessary for voice concatenation. This means that individual phrases or words that are stored in phrase ROM can be concatenate din the edit ROM and assigned a single address according to their content. This feature allows efficient usage of memory for phrase storage in ROM.
